ABERDEEN MAN CONVICTED OF BRUTAL GIRLFRIEND MURDER IN FRENZIED KNIFE ATTACK
A man has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend following a violent incident in her flats in Brechin, Angus, early on June 9th.Keith Rizzo, a 23-year-old farm worker, was convicted after a two-week trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
Jurors heard how Rizzo had previously exhibited violent behavior, including choking Neomi Smith until she passed out, smashing her belongings, and threatening her.
On the night of the murder, Rizzo stormed into her flat after a fight at Brechin’s Hudson’s Bar, where he abruptly left after witnessing her dancing with another man.
He then entered her flat, strangled her, and stabbed her 32 times with knives, also assaulting her with blunt force.
Rizzo attempted to lie about the incident, claiming others had attacked her, but evidence showed he was responsible.
The court heard that Miss Smith feared leaving him due to previous violence.
Rizzo’s mother visited him in prison, where he bizarrely claimed that two men had murdered her.
Rizzo was previously convicted of abuse against another woman and was also convicted today of an earlier assault on Miss Smith and threatening behavior.
Lady Rae deferred sentencing to next month for reports, and the judge warned Rizzo that he faces a significant punishment part of a life sentence, highlighting the brutality of his crime.
